“I recently stayed at Azumi Setoda, and while the hotel’s architectural design and aesthetic concept are undeniably beautiful, the overall experience fell far short of expectations for a property in this price range. Before arrival, the hotel specifically requested that guests provide ferry arrival information via email. However, despite sending all requested details, no one came to meet us or assist upon arrival. This raises the question: what was the purpose of collecting that information in the first place? “Wow what a wonderful hotel! If you want to some peace and quiet this is the place to go. There is an Onsen across the street that is very nice. I drove here from Hiroshima airport and it was such a beautiful drive! The hotel restaurant dinner was very high quality and delicious. There is no TV in the room because they want you to unplug from technology and be peaceful ☺️. But they said they can bring one in if you prefer. The hotel also offers bike tours which was very fun! “I fear I will sound picky with our review, but we have come to experience significantly better boutique hotels and ryokans in Japan. Overall Azumi feels austere, a little cold, and contemplative to the degree it’s unrewarding. I may sound harsh but all of these aspects we believe must be intentional based on many decisions they’ve made across rooms, lobby and lounge, dining, and service. There is much detail I could describe but the one I’ll highlight here is that most rooms look out to a large fence, just feet away from the windows. Our room came with a balcony.. I guess as a joke?
