“Overall it felt like the stunning property made the experience more than the brand/service did, which is quite a strong statement for a hotel of this calibre. The service didn’t quite match the setting. It felt understaffed at times, especially around the outdoor pool where there didn’t seem to be anyone around for quite a while. We couldn’t get drinks and eventually just gave up and went for lunch instead. Same when we wanted a parasol, no one came to help and we ended up moving the seats around ourselves. From the moment we stepped in to the moment we left, I felt so incredibly welcomed by the warmth of the staff at six senses, particularly Sara who checked us into the hotel. The drive up to the hotel is beautiful, even on a cloudy day. There wasn’t a single part of the hotel that I wasn’t impressed by, from the balcony at reception with the beautiful Douro river view, the padel court engulfed by the hills of the valley, to the swimming pool enveloped by the river on one side and the hills on the other.
