“San Clemente is a great choice for those who want to avoid the crowds of Mestre. Obviously having to take the shuttle to San Marco can be a pain, and takes some planning, but once one steps off the boat at San Clemente, one feels the sense that this is going to be a delightful stay. The island on which San Clemente is situated is beautiful and tranquil with mature landscaping. The common spaces are extraordinarily beautiful, and one can clearly tell that this used to be a monastery—although I doubt the former residents took a vow of poverty.
